Modern cabinetry is the centerpiece for a condo kitchen makeover

Arlington Heights, Illinois

When it came time to gut and redo a suburban condo, the owners returned to a known quality of work—GNP’s general contracting and residential construction management team—which had previously renovated two bathrooms. Working cooperatively with a designer, the GNP team assumed general project management, receiving materials and doing all implementation except appliances, including a center island.

The centerpiece of the new kitchen is the glass-fronted cabinets that rest above a seamless granite countertop and backsplash—visually uninterrupted by outlets that are standard to most kitchen workspaces. Instead, GNP installed “no show” outlet strips under the counter, eliminating the need to drill into the granite backsplash and retaining the kitchen’s sleek styling. GNP used a mix of strip and puck lights above, below, and inside each cabinet to further showcase the cabinetry, providing both warmth and functionality. GNP installed can lights in the ceiling and a pendant light above the island.

The owners’ response to their new kitchen: “We could not be more delighted with the finished product! We’ve worked with the GNP team for all our construction and remodeling needs over the last five years. They are outstanding craftsmen and their knowledge and experience take the anxiety and stress out of these major and disruptive projects.”

Throughout the two-month project, the owners remained in their home, preparing meals using a microwave and the old refrigerator, which was retained for the duration of the construction.
